The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) has introduced a controversial policy shift with “Multiple Listing Options for Sellers.” Effective March 25, 2025, the policy introduces “delayed marketing exempt listings” allowing sellers to hold back public marketing of a listing while still sharing it internally within the MLS.
The intent? Greater flexibility for sellers.
The result? Division.
Just this week, CRMLS, the nation’s largest MLS, announced it will not adopt the policy, citing concerns over transparency and platform fragmentation.
So what’s the tech angle?
Let’s be clear , this isn’t just a compliance story. It’s a data access and workflow design story.
At Athago, we’ve been building real estate platforms that translate regulation into user-focused tools.
This policy change highlights a growing gap: between traditional listing flows and what modern, adaptable platforms must support.
We’ve delivered:
-EZ Leasing, a modular leasing and tenant screening SaaS designed for U.S. markets and integrated with TransUnion, enabling faster decision-making without compromising data control.
-JibKey, a real estate marketplace with role-differentiated flows that adapt based on user type , whether broker, tenant, or landlord. No static portals. No one-size-fits-all paths.
The Opportunity for Modernization
If you’re a brokerage, MLS, or proptech leader, here’s the challenge:
How do you remain compliant, while maintaining the user trust and listing visibility your platform depends on?
This is where responsive software matters, not just to adapt, but to differentiate. The industry is splitting: those who resist complexity vs. those who build clarity into it.
Let’s make sure your system does the latter. Reach out before the September implementation deadline.
