LATERAL ENTRY CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICERS

Salary and Benefits:


  • Starting Pay: $67,620.80-$71,032.00

  • Earned Time Off, Including: Vacation, Personal, Compensation, and Sick Time

  • Shift Differential: $0.50/hour extra for 2nd and 3rd shifts

  • $7500.00 structured bonus. $2500.00 bonus upon signing a two-year contract. $2500.00 bonus after completion of one-year, and a $2500.00 bonus after completion of two years.

  • Work schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off; 5 days on, 3 days off, repeat.

Training:


  • 8-12 week FTO program

Probationary Period:


  • 12 month probationary period

  • 2 year contract

Age and Residency:


  • 21-35 years of age (exceptions for military and prior Law Enforcement)

  • Must live within a 30-mile radius of the Silvis Police Department

Characteristics of the Job:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine tasks requiring application of judgment based on knowledge gained through experience and training and occasionally exercises independent judgment when dealing with emergency situations. Is responsible for the protection of life and property and the preservation of order in the City of Silvis through enforcement of laws and ordinances. Work normally consists of pro-active patrol responding to calls for service, traffic regulation, and investigative duties when following up on certain calls. May also be assigned to specialized units responsible for follow-up investigations, self-initiated criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, and other support or staff services. Performs other duties as assigned.

Training and Experience:


  1. Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board as a certified full-time police officer; and

  2. Previous continuos service as a Police Officer in the State of Illinois for a minimum of two years; and

  3. In good standing in the Police Department in which the person currently serves or separated from with no adverse employment action; and

  4. Eligible to be granted a waiver of basic training from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:


  • Good communication skills and general intelligence

  • Skilled in the use of firearms a plus

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with peers, superiors, other agencies, and the general public.

Non-Certified Police Officers:

The City of Silvis Civil Service Commission will also be accepting applications for non-certified Police Officers. Testing dates will be established when the Civil Service Commission receives enough applications to hold testing. Testing will consist of a written test from Stanard and Associates (POST exam) and the Illinois POWER test.
