Job Description

*Annual Salary: $40k-$60k (varies depending on years of experience)*

We are looking for a detail-driven Medical Billing Specialist to support the financial operations of our clients orthopedic practice. This role ensures healthcare providers are reimbursed accurately and efficiently by preparing, submitting, and following up on medical claims. The ideal candidate has strong problem-solving skills, a solid understanding of medical billing practices, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and compliance.

*Key Responsibilities:*

* Post and reconcile payments from insurance carriers, patients, and third parties to the correct accounts.
* Prepare and send patient statements and insurance claims on schedule, ensuring accuracy before submission.
* Review, correct, and resubmit denied or rejected claims; prepare appeal letters with supporting documentation when necessary.
* Respond to billing questions from patients, explain charges, and assist in resolving disputes.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of billing codes, payer requirements, and healthcare compliance regulations.
* Track claim progress, follow up with insurance providers regarding unpaid or delayed claims, and escalate issues when needed.
* Process overpayments and refunds, and research any discrepancies in account balances.
* Generate billing-related reports such as accounts receivable summaries, collection activity, and outstanding claims.
* Organize and maintain thorough documentation of billing activity, correspondence, and claim records.
* Draft collection notices or other billing-related correspondence when accounts become delinquent.
* Assist with verifying insurance eligibility and obtaining authorizations when necessary.
* Provide administrative support such as copying checks, faxing claim information, or preparing retroactive authorization requests.

*Qualifications:*

* Previous experience in medical billing, healthcare finance, or a related role.
* Knowledge of insurance claim submission processes, coding systems, and payer regulations.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Proficiency with billing software, electronic claim systems, and standard office applications.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain billing processes clearly to patients.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
* Experience with appeals and insurance claim disputes.
* Familiarity with multiple insurance carriers and their specific billing requirements.
* Background in outpatient or clinical healthcare settings.
