The role of Estimator is responsible for assessing the cost of construction by analyzing data in order to assess the time, money, materials, and labor required to make a product or provide a service. The estimator will map out all of the human and material resources needed for erecting the structural framework of buildings and use these predictions to determine the projected cost of each project while maintaining established profit margins. This role must be capable of aligning business goals with solutions to drive process improvements and competitive advantage.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Develops financial estimates, prepares proposals, and performs the necessary follow-up for successful sales closings.
· Prepares a takeoff of all material and labor required for the project (takeoff will be combined with outside vendor pricing to produce a complete project cost estimate).
· Demonstrates excellent interpersonal relationship skills through ongoing relationships with general contracting companies in the assigned territory.
· Works with outside vendors to request and receive project-specific pricing to meet firm deadlines.
· Coordinates with operations and outside vendors on how the job is to be built in both our shop and in the field.
· Coordinates with the customer to help ensure we are providing a complete package with a thorough understanding of the project schedule and project-specific requirements.
· Accounts for the use of our resources, plus a reasonable profit margin to calculate an overarching price.
· Creates and processes sales orders and change orders.
· Promotes a positive working environment conducive to a team atmosphere in alignment with the GS Steel culture.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED / PREFERRED
· Bachelor’s degree in construction management, structural / civil engineering or business is preferred
· Basic understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection practices including knowledge of structural shapes and general industry terminology
· Ability to read and interpret construction documents including design drawings and specification documents. Ability to read shop drawings a plus
· Microsoft software applications including MS Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook - emphasis on the ability to manipulate Excel spreadsheets
· Experience with PDF review/editing software (Bluebeam, Acrobat)
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Ability to read and interpret technical and legal documents
· Strong math and geometry skills
· Solid follow-up and sales capabilities
· Ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting stringent deadlines
· Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to focus on given tasks
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work will be performed in an indoor office environment. Position requires long durations committed to independent reading and computation. Strong concentration skills are necessary.
Position sometimes requires travel to the customer’s location and/or project sites and may require overnight stay.
