Now Hiring: Diesel Mechanic

Job Description

This position involves performing scheduled preventative maintenance and necessary repairs on automobiles, trucks (Class 4-8), vans, and material handling equipment. The role demands a high degree of independence and requires the use of personal tools including general hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose failures of vehicles and disassemble, repair, and reassemble as necessary.
• Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles.
• Meet internal customer expectations.
• Maintain vehicle records as required.
• Respond to road calls.
• Diagnose electrical systems, fuel systems, brake systems, and all other assemblies associated with vehicle maintenance and repair.

Essential Skills

• Experience in diesel maintenance and repair.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle failures.
• Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience with hydraulic and air brake systems.
• Knowledge of internal combustible engines (multi-fuel sources).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1+ years of experience as a mechanic.
• Valid CDL license (preferred but not required).
• State inspection license (must obtain within 180 days of hire).
• ASE Medium/Heavy Equipment certification (preferred but not required).

Work Environment

Work in a fleet shop with 100-foot bays located at a distribution facility. Experience varying temperatures, hot in summer and cold in winter. Collaborate with a tenured team of technicians while working independently in confined spaces and moving around large trucks. Standard work hours are Monday to Friday. Dress code includes a provided uniform, steel-toed boots, and necessary PPE such as vests and glasses.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
