Rainbow Labs is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Queer and Gender Nonconforming (QGNC) youth by providing safe, inclusive, and peer-driven after-school programs. Guided by core values of Discovery, Awareness, Boldness, Curiosity, Accountability, and Inclusivity, Rainbow Labs offers mentorship and support to QGNC youth aged 12-18 through programs designed by and for them. Led by mentors trained in trauma-informed care, cultural competency, and youth development, these programs create spaces for youth to explore their identities, develop life skills, and engage in real-world applications.

About the Role

Rainbow Labs is seeking a mission-aligned and systems-minded Community Engagement Associate to support the organizations outreach, mentor engagement, and community visibility strategies. This team member will work alongside the Rainbow Labs team to build sustainable infrastructure that strengthens community partnerships, expands volunteer engagement, and increases brand visibility. The ideal candidate is someone who is detail-oriented, creative, and energized by building relationships that uplift LGBTQ+ youth.

This position is part of the AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program, a national service initiative designed to alleviate poverty and build capacity in nonprofit organizations. VISTA members serve full-time for one year, focusing on projects that strengthen organizations by expanding access to education, increasing economic opportunity, and improving health outcomes in underserved communities. As a VISTA member, youll receive a modest living allowance, professional development opportunities, and an end-of-service education award or cash stipend. This role is ideal for individuals looking to make a meaningful impact while gaining experience in nonprofit leadership, training development, and community empowerment.

Inclusivity & Community Engagement

• Identify and initiate connections with at least 10 community-based organizations aligned with Rainbow Labs mission.
• Serve as an outreach ambassador at community events, representing Rainbow Labs and connecting with prospective mentors and partners.
• Co-develop outreach and engagement strategies that reflect the needs and identities of QGNC youth.
• Document feedback and trends from community events to inform inclusive, responsive programming.

Discovery & Curiosity

• Research and map community partners, event opportunities, and potential mentor pipelines.
• Collaborate with staff to prepare promotional and outreach materials tailored to community audiences.
• Identify best practices for inclusive volunteer onboarding and engagement through observation and dialogue with staff, mentors, and participants.

Boldness & Accountability

• Design a year-long strategy, including application templates, onboarding resources, and engagement plans.
• Support the preparation and coordination of Rainbow Labs presence at 20+ community events annually.
• Build internal systems that track progress toward outreach goals and help scale mentor engagement infrastructure.
• Present quarterly updates to staff leadership with key data and recommendations for improvement.

Awareness & Administrative Support

• Create data collection tools such as contact forms, mentor interest surveys, and event feedback templates.
• Develop a centralized dashboard or spreadsheet to track community partnerships, mentor recruitment, and event impact.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure that tracking systems are user-friendly, actionable, and support ongoing growth.

Skill & Qualifications

• A strong passion for LGBTQ+ youth empowerment, social justice, and community building.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to connect across diverse communities.
• Excellent organizational skills with a knack for creating systems and workflows.
• Experience with outreach, event planning, or volunteer recruitment is a plus, but not required.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment.
